If Possible, Allow 6 To 8
Weeks To Select A Mover
When you know you are going to be moving, you should start looking for a mover at least six weeks before the actual date of the move. It is going to take some time to receive estimates and compare moving companies before you can make a decision. When selecting a moving company, you should talk to people and find out if they can recommend a mover with a good reputation. You also need time to check references, licenses and safety records. You also need to select the right type of insurance for the move. All this takes time.
You should have a minimum of three estimates to compare. This means you need to schedule an appointment with a mover to come to your home and do a physical inspection. The mover then might need time to complete the estimate before submitting it to you for consideration. Then you need to sit down and compare, which can take another week to do. You will more than likely have some questions you need answers to and this will take time. So far, it has taken about two to three weeks. After you have answers, estimates and check references, you need to decide on the mover.
It is now two weeks before the move. You have things that you need to do before the movers come to your home and start working. If you are packing yourself, you should have been packing within this time as well. If the moving company is doing the packing, you need to do your inventory list. You also do this on the day of packing to makes sure you have not forgotten anything. It does take time to select a mover and get ready for the move. It is wise to start eight to six weeks ahead of time and play it safe.
