Make Sure The Mover Gives You
A Written "Order For Service"
For The Probable Cost Of The Move
The "Order of Service" protects you after the move when the unloading of the property occurs. The document will include what the costs could be if the overall costs exceeds the estimate. It will tell how much you have to pay to have your property unloaded when it arrives at the new location. The amount you pay for unloading should not exceed the original estimate plus twenty-five percent if the move is hourly and plus ten percent if the move is quoted by weight for moves within the same state. With out of state moves, you should generally have thirty days to pay the balance that can only be ten percent over the estimate. If you are moving within the same state, you will have fifteen days to pay the balance.
It is very important to receive a copy of the "Order of Service" agreement before nay packing or moving is started. If you do not have this document, you can be charged more than the twenty-five or ten percent over the estimate cost. You could end up paying one hundred percent of the cost for unloading your property. This is a shock for anybody who is paying for a move, especially out of state. It is customary for a reputable mover to provide this document, but if you are not offered the document, ask the mover to provide it before signing any contracts.
Never take anything for grant where a move is concerned. Look at every document you sign and understand what it states as far as terms of payment, unloading costs and any other cost associated with moving. It is extremely important to find a mover that provides all the answers and documents you will need for hiring a moving service with peace of mind. Only work with licensed, insured and safe movers.
