Get Estimates from Different Movers
Based on a Physical Inspection of
Your Home, Apartment, or Business
Before you plan your move, call a few different moving companies and have them give you an estimate relating to the move. Do not settle for an over the phone estimate, insist on a physical inspection of your property. This is the only way to ensure that the estimate will be accurate. The estimate should show how many hours it will take to pack your property, what the rate is per hour and how many workers would be working on the job. If you are moving out of state, you need to have a cost for mileage, gas and any other costs associated with the move.
The estimate should include any insurance costs if you upgrade from the basic liability to a full coverage plan or an actual cost plan. If they will charge for boxing and other supplies, this needs to be on the estimate as well. Do not except any estimates that do not include everything down to the last penny. If you compare the estimates and see a big difference in costs, you should question why the difference exists and how it will affect you after the move is complete. If a mover underestimates another company, you might not save any money at all. They made add to the costs in the end. It is wise to ask as many questions as you can about the estimate.
Movers with good reputations will give complete estimates that show where all the money is going. If you see any areas of the estimate that is open, ask why and insist on an entry even if it will be a N/A meaning it does not pertain to your move. After you have compared the estimates and asked all your questions, you can then decide which mover will serve you the best with your move.
